The Galway Arts Festival Is The Biggest Showcase Of The Arts In Ireland
Galway is a city on the west coast of Ireland and is known worldwide as the place of the Galway Races, a seven-day festival of horse racing. And who has not heard the song “Galway Bay” was made famous by Bing Crosby
But in recent years, Galway has been a central arena in the world of art and culture. This is due largely to the success of the Galway Arts Festival, which is now a two-week event and is one of Ireland’s biggest festivals.
Founded in 1978 and in 33 years has grown in size and reputation and now many major international artists and performers of Irish music (folk, jazz, classical and traditional), theater, visual arts, dance, comedy and more. The Festival of the Arts was instumental to Galway on the world map as a cultural center of excellence.

Find shows
Many states and communities have art leagues and associations which list of exhibitions of local art. Be sure to start with these organizations. Once you identify the shows your interest, please write or e-mail to contact at each show for a program. In most cases you will be looking for performances that take place outside of 6-12 months, the deadline is often early.
