2010 Crossing the Blues Events: MUSIC

The Wasteland Kings

Street Dance with The Wasteland Kings

Friday August 20, 7:30PM - 9:30PM on the DEPOT STREET STAGE

Take a full dose of Americana, add some blues, a bit of reggae, a touch of punk, and a shot of country, you end up with The Wasteland Kings. If you like Drive-By Truckers, Steve Earle, and John Hiatt, you need to check out The Wasteland Kings. From Motown to Nashville, Austin to SoCal, you will hear it all with The Wasteland Kings. Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Hank Williams can all be heard when you listen between the lines--even in what could be a west coast punk tune. But what you will never hear is this band trying to sound like anyone else. Their straightforward, no gimmicks, rock-solid approach is showcased with the kind of strong lyrics, hard-sell vocals, and deft guitar featuring that not only makes you listen, it makes you believe!

Summit Ridge Informal Pix

Saturday August 21: Summit Ridge

Saturday August 21, 9:00am - Noon

Summit Ridge has been performing bluegrass and Americana music for the past five years, and has polished the act as much as folk music can be, according to their websites. From the web page: "Summit Ridge is a bluegrass band, more or less. At least that was the original intent."

The players are (left to right): Sharon Porter (Bass), Michael Snider (Banjo), and Thacher Carter (Guitar.)

Janice Carper and Carolyn Lochert

Janis Carper and Carolyn Lochert

Saturday August 21, 12:30 - 2:30

Singer songwriters Carolyn Lochert and Janis Carper join forces to present a concert of originals and tasteful covers that swing and groove. Lochert's jazz-influenced vocals and Carper's edgy blues-rock style blend nicely to create a mix that's both soulful and energetic. Each artist has three songs on the recent compilation CD "Songs from the End of the Road" and Carper has followed up with a brand new collection, "Songs from the Trailer," released in May 2010.

Rock Creek Jazz Quintet

Saturday August 21, 3:00 - 5:00

Jeff Sizer started performing on trombone in Seattle area rock bands in 1971. He experienced road life for 5 years with "Jim Brady and the Sonics" and played some "hot and savage swing" in the "New Deal Rhythm Band". A Music Education degree from Central Washington University was earned in 1981, followed by a Masters degree in conducting in 1988. A published composer, Jeff won the National Association of Jazz Educators composition contest in 1981 for his big band piece, "Samba These Days".

Jeff will be joined by son Dan on drums, our own Matt Cooper on keyboards, Pendleton's Alan Feves on bass, and Gina Glaubke. Gina describes herself as a rather counterfeit musician. She took guitar lessons at a young age then quit to pursue debatably more practical goals. She now “chunk chunks “ a few dominant ninth and major seventh chords and emerged from the closet singing in her mid-forties. Since audience reactions have generally been positive, she has kept at it.

Blue Yesterdays Big Band
