COME CELEBRATE! Crossing the Blues in La Grande, Oregon August 20 & 21 2010

Now in its third year, Crossing the Blues, Eastern Oregon's biggest arts festival, promises to be a premier celebration of creative expression! The event kicks off with an art extravaganza: local galleries stay open late to usher in a street dance featuring the rock fusion sound of the Wasteland Kings. As the music dies down, watch the creative genius of filmmakers unfold at the debut of the La Grande Summer Film Project.

Athletes welcome Saturday with a mini-triathlon, while others start slow and easy with the fresh tastes of the La Grande Farmers' Market, easy music by Summit Ridge, and art in the streets. As the day heats up, so does the action: see artists battle it out in an Artists Quick Draw competition, each creating a unique work of art on the spot. You'll find art in the streets--literally--as chalk artist Janet Gogue provides a workshop for participating artists to learn the magic of street art. Shoppers meander among the art and craft vendors displaying creations from pottery to photography, fabric to fine art. Throughout the day, view entries submitted to the La Grande Summer Film Project (vote for your favorite), join in reading and writing activities throughout downtown, drop by the CAPPS Broadcasting stage and listen to special guest bands, including Janis Carper & Carolyn Lockert and the Rock Creek Jazz Quintet.

When the sun begins its slide behind Table Mountain, a theatre troupe takes over the downtown park for a live performance. Once rested, get out your dancing shoes and dance the night away as Crossing the Blues culminates in a rousing performance by Baker City's own Blue Yesterdays.
