Midsummer Night's Dream: Downtown
Saturday 6:00pm - Outside at City Hall
The Eastern Oregon Theatre Program’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises to be something to behold. Led by Director, and EOU alumni, Chuck Peters Midsummer’s experienced cast is in full swing with the Guerrilla-style production rehearsing at a record four and a half week schedule.
Set in the present day, Hermia (AMANDA SLIPPY) finds herself town between the will of her father Egeus (BUCK POTTER), her duke (JORDAN WALLIS) and the love for her soul-mate Lysander (LIBERTY O’DELL) as she is willfully pursued by her soul-not, Demetrius (MICHAEL COOPER). Her friend since youth, Helena (EMILY BUTLER), is also at a crossroads with her as her love for Demetrius was rudely interrupted by his need for a challenge. Their backs against the wall, Hermia and Lysander decided to make for the forest and retreat to Lysander’s grandmother’s house.
Unbeknownst to them...
Peter Quince (MATT BETTIS), Bottom (MATT WELLS), Snout (HEIDI PETERSON), Flute (ARI BLOODGOOD), Starveling (HALEY RANKIN) and Snug (TARA BOETHIN) have assembled together to put on a play for the Duke’s upcoming marriage to Hippolyta. Having selected a real lemon of piece, they too set out into the woods to rehearse.
And as well...
Demetrius has been informed by Helena of Hermia and Lysander’s plan and has traveled into the woods to thwart their efforts.
Then along came a fairy.
Within the forest, all craziness breaks loose as Puck (CHRISTOPHER HOOPER) and Oberon play very cruel tricks, one after the other, on these tormented to-be’s, as Oberon plots against his Titania (JULI BLOODGOOD) to trick her out of guardianship of a little Indian boy.
Coupled with the willfull malice which befalls the mechanicals at the hands of Puck, and its’ fantastical crew (DAN PETZNICK, CASSIE BEERS, JON FRANKLIN, ALAN ARNSON, LOUISE WEEKS, ROSE PEACOCK, JON GRIFFITH) Eastern Oregon Universities' production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream promises to leave you very relieved at the non-existence of fairies.
VALLEY VIDEO SERVICES will be videotaping the performance for retail.
